LHU Track And Field

Five school records fall and LHU hits four NCAA marks as Track & Field turns in another sensational weekend

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – It was another busy weekend for the Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track & field teams, but they didn’t disappoint and turned in another sensational weekend on the indoor oval and in the field.

Both the Bald and Lady Eagles were in action on Friday and Saturday, competing at the Penn State National Invitational and the Bucknell Bison Open.

A total of five school records fell as The Haven continues to impress.

LHU also hit four different NCAA qualifying marks to go along with a number of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks.

Leading the way for the men was once again Chris Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), who has been on an early season tear. Competing at the Penn State National Invitational, Edelman took fourth overall in the 400 meter dash in a talent-laden field.

Edelman set a school record with a sizzling 48.91.

Edelman wasn’t finished there and was also part of two NCAA qualifying relays teams.

Much like Edelman, Ben McConnell (Danville, Pa./Danville) was very solid in a trio of events.

McConnell hit the third fastest 500 meter time in school history as he ran to a 15th place finish at Penn State. McConnell hit an impressive time of 1:05.73.

McConnell and Edelman were keys on Lock Haven’s 4x400 meter and Distance Medley relay teams.

The two teamed up with Brandon Pomerantz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) and Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) to hit a NCAA qualifying time in the DMR. The foursome clocked a 10:05.05, which is the fourth fastest time in school history. It was good enough for eighth place at PSU.

Chris Jones (Jersey City, N.J./Lincoln) and Steve Roberts (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown), along with McConnell and Edelman clocked a 3:17.90 in the 4x400 meter relay. The time was the second fastest in LHU history and hit a NCAA qualifying mark.

Greg Mock (Sicklerville, N.J./Timbercreek) continued is solid form and placed first at 60 meter at Bucknell with a time of 6.92.

The Lady Eagles were also tremendous over the weekend.

Leading the way was Alyssa Douma (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and Shala Simms (Ardmore, Pa./Upper Darby).

The two mid-distance specialists each turned in a remarkable individual performance and were also part to two fantastic relay teams.

Douma set a school record at 1,000 meters with time of 3:01.48. She was fifth overall.

Simms hit a NCAA qualifying mark in her bread and butter event, the 800 meter dash. She was seventh with a school-record time of 2:14.51.

Freshman Lindsey Lambert (Howell, N.J./Howell) wasn’t to be outdone and followed up a 5K school record last weekend with a school record run in the 3K this weekend. She also teamws up with Douma and Simms as well as Meagan Wolf (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) to hit a NCAA qualifying mark in the DMR.

Lambert was 11th in the 3K with a time of 10:16.50.

The Lady Eagles DMR ran 12:04.34, which was a school-record performance.

Wolf, Douma, Simms and Cassie Snider (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) were second at Bucknell in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:00.17. The time was the third fastest in school history.

The Haven is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Susquehanna Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University. Action kicks off at 9 a.m.in Selinsgrove, Pa.
