LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track & field teams have both earned top-10 rankings in the NCAA Division II Track & Field Team Power Rankings.
The Lady Eagles are ranked No. 5 and the Bald Eagles come in ranked No. 6 in the initial poll of the season.
Grand Valley State grabbed the top spot in the women’s rankings with 258.12 points.
The Haven women were fifth with 221.16 points and the top team from both the Atlantic Region and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
The Lady Eagles have been led by a cast of strong performers early in the season.
Most notably it’s been senior mid-distance standout Shala Simms (Ardmore, Pa./Upper Darby) and Lady Eagles solid throwing unit.
Simms currently holds the second-fastest mark in the conference in the 800 meter run. Her time of 2:14.81 is also the 11th best in the nation right now.
Simms is also a key member of The Haven’s distance medley relay team that is ranked sixth nationally.
Adams State holds the top spot in the men’s rankings with 270.87 points.
The Bald Eagles are ranked sixth with 241.30 points. Lock Haven is the top men’s team from the region and the PSAC.
The Haven men have been solid up and down the lineup of events.
LHU holds several of the conference’s top marks in individual events and holds the top marks thus far in all three relays. (4x400, 4x800 and DMR).
The Bald Eagles DMR is ranked sixth nationally and the 4x400 meter sits at 15th on the national list.
