Lady Eagle swimmers set for PSAC Championships

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University swim team is set to take part in 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships.

This year’s edition of the PSAC Championships will be hosted by California (Pa.) University at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Four Lady Eagles have qualified for individual events and two others will join The Haven to take part in the relay events.

Lock Haven’s four individual qualifiers heading to Mechanicsburg are 2008 All-American Amanda Terray (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley), junior Amanda Palmer (Exton, Pa./Dowingtown East), freshman Kasey Campbell (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) and freshman Sam Durham (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville).

Joining that foursome to take part in LHU’s relays will be freshman Janel Kinard (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) and sophomore Brittany Williams (North East, Pa./North East).

LHU head coach Andy Waeger is very excited about the championships and is looking for big things from his team this weekend.

Waeger says, that one of the main goals for the Lady Eagles will be to among the top women’s only programs at the championships.

Leading the way for Lock Haven will be Terray, sophomore and the defending PSAC Champion in the 200 yard backstroke event.

Terray will compete in the 50 yard freestyle, as well as the 100 and 200 yard backstroke.

Terray enjoyed an outstanding freshman year last season and is looking to continue to build on those successes.

At last year’s PSAC Championship meet, Terray became the first ever Lady Eagle to win a PSAC individual championship when she took first in the 200 backstroke.

A goal of Terray’s will be to repeat as 200-back champion, as she enters with the top time, while also looking to compete for titles in the 100 back and 50 free.

Palmer has enjoyed her break out season and is looking to cap if off with some big swims at the conference championships.

She’s entered in four events, but will only swim three. She is set to compete in the 200 butterfly and the 400 IM. Her third even will be either the 100 butterfly or the 200 IM.

Palmer’s hit lifetime bests all year long and hopes that trend continues this weekend as she looks to score some points for LHU in multiple events.

Campbell will compete in the 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle events.

Campbell’s been quite impressive thus far for the Lady Eagles, as she’s been on a tear for them in the distance events.

If her recent success continues, she should wrap up her already successful rookie season as the school record holder in multiple events.

Durham will take part in the 50 and 100 freestyle. She will also be a part all three Haven relays.

A sprint-specialist, Durham certainly has the potential to hit some top time for Lock Haven, while adding a tremendous dynamic to the relays.
