Baseball falls to Kutztown in season opener
 

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (0-1) fell to Kutztown University (3-2) 12-0 tonight in the Bald Eagles 2009 season opener at the Builder Invitational, hosted by the Apprentice School in Newport News, Va.

Kutztown’s 12 runs came off 11 hits.

The Golden Bears took a 1-0 lead into the third inning and then tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third. It was 8-0 KU after seven innings and the Golden Bears scored four more runs in the bottom of the eighth to earn the win.

Junior Josh Rote (McElhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) got the nod on the mound for the Bald Eagles. Rote work five inning and allowed six hits. He gave up five runs (4 ER), while walking four and striking out two.

Matt Palko (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) picked up Lock Haven’s only two hits at the plate as he went 2-for-4.

The Bald Eagles are back in action tomorrow as they’ll play two at the Builder Invitational. LHU plays Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foes East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg. The Haven plays ESU at 3 p.m. and follows that up with a 6 p.m. game against Bloom. Live stats will be available for both games at the following link.
