NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (0-3) went 0-2 today as the Bald Eagles dropped games to East Stroudsburg University (4-1) and Bloomsburg University (2-1) today at the Builder Invitational, hosted by the Apprentice School in Newport News, Va.
The Bald Eagles lost to ESU 16-5 and fell to Bloom 10-3 in the night cap despite an attempt for a ninth-inning rally.
Evan Petro (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) led the way at the plate for the Bald Eagles against ESU. The redshirt-junior went 4-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run for LHU. Petro walked once.
Sophomore Tyler Rumsey (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) got the nod on the mound vs. the ESU Warriors. He worked 3.1 innings taking the loss, but he did strike out four.
Andrew Simonik (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) got the start on the mound in the Bloom game and worked 4.1 innings. He gave up nine hits while allowing six runs, four of which were earned. Simonik walked two and struck out one.
Jordan Kipp (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) pitched the finally 3.2 innings and gave up four runs on four hits. He walked three batters and recorded one strike out.
Senior Ted Stake (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) led The Haven at the plate as he went 2-for-2 with two walks.
Trailing 10-1 heading into the final frame, Lock Haven looked to spark up a ninth-inning rally.
Matt Palko (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) got the momentum going with a lead-off home run.
LHU would tack on one more run, but the rally would be short lived as Bloom picked up the win.
The Bald Eagles are back in action tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 21) at the Builder Invitational. LHU takes on the host Apprentice School at 3 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
