NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – It took an extra inning of play, but the Lock Haven University baseball team (1-4) got its first win of the 2009 season today as the Bald Eagles downed host Apprentice School (4-3) 11-10 in 10 innings on the final day of the Builder Invitational in Newport News, Va.

The Haven used a three-run 10th inning to down Apprentice school after the game was tied at the end of nine.

Lock Haven’s 11 runs came off 14 hits.

Zach Schuler (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Spring Grove) had a huge day at the plate for LHU as he went 4-for-5 with three RBIs.

Ted Stake (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) and Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) had solid games at the plate. Stake was 2-for-6 with two RBIs and Strouse went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Matt Palko (Freeland, Pa./Hazelton Area) continued his solid early season hitting with a 2-for-5 outing. He drove in one run.

Matt McCamley (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) contributed to The Haven’s offensive explosion as he went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Jordan Yohn (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) got the nod on the mound. He went the first eight innings and struck out nine.

Erik Christensen (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) picked up the win for LHU after working the last two innings of action. He gave up two runs, one of which was earned on two hits and struck out one. He allowed two walks.

Lock Haven followed up its win over Apprentice school with a win over East Stroudsburg. The Bald Eagles won 17-10 to pick up their second win of the day as they rounded out the four-day tournament in strong fashion.

The Bald Eagles are back in action next weekend when they kick off their annual spring break trip. LHU will be playing in the Central Florida Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla. On Saturday, Feb. 28, The Haven will play a doubleheader with West Virginia Wesleyan. First pitch is set for noon.
