HILO, Hawaii. – The No. 1 Lock Haven University softball team (1-3) split a doubleheader today with the University of Hawaii at Hilo (8-10) in Hawaii.
The Haven won game one 2-1, but fell in game two of the doubleheader 1-0.
Ilia Lopez (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg), Amanda Roosa (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) and Amanda Gutmaker (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Northeast) accounted for LHU’s three hits in the game one.
Roosa and Lopez both had one RBI.
Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) had a strong outing in game one with nine strikeouts. She gave up only four hits and allowed just one run.
Lock Haven took the lead in the top of the second after Roosa drilled a lead-off home run to put LHU up 1-0.
Hilo tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, but Lopez drove home the game-winning run in the sixth to help secure the win for The Haven.
LHU dropped the second game of the doubleheader 1-0 as Hilo posted the only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Lady Eagles recorded four hits in game two and were led by Gutmaker, who went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Julia Popovich (Lemont, Pa./State College) got the nod in the circle and gave up only three hits over six innings of work.
Popovich and Lopez each recorded a hit in the loss.
The Lady Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, March 3 when they take on Chaminade University at 4:30 p.m. (9:30 p.m. EST) in Hawaii.
