WAIPAHU, Hawaii – The No. 1 Lock Haven University softball team (3-3) topped Chaminade University (1-15) in both games of a doubleheader in Hawaii.
The Lady Eagles took game one of the doubleheader 3-1 and used a big seventh inning to down host-Chaminade 8-6 in game two.
In game one LHU’s three runs came off four hits.
Leading the way the plate was Nancy O’Conor (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) went the distance in the circle and allowed just three hits. She gave up one run, which was earned and allowed zero walks.
Erb had six strikeouts.
LHU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Sarah Norris (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) hit a two-out solo home run.
In game two of the doubleheader, The Haven used a five-run seventh to take home the win.
The Lady Eagles trailed 6-3 going into the seventh, but got the rally going.
Norris started that rally with lead-off home run in the top of the seventh.
Leading 6-5 in the seventh, LHU got another boost as O’Connor and Krystin Montoro (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) drilled back-to-back homeruns.
O’Connor’s was a two-run shot, as Lock Haven got the offense going in game two today and combined for 15 hits.
Five different Lady Eagles had multiple hit games.
Julia Popovich (Lemont, Pa./State College) and Erb combined to get the job done in the circle.
Popovich got the start, but Erb worked the final 5.2 innings and struck out three.
*The doubleheader with Chaminade ended late last night (Tuesday, March 3 - Hawaiian local, early this morning - Wednesday - EST).
Lock Haven is back in action today at Brigham Young University Hawaii. The two teams are set to play two, with the first pitch set for 1 p.m. (6 p.m. EST).
