SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The No. 4 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (1-0) certainly looked like one of the nation’s top teams in its 2009 season opener, as the Lady Eagles soared past Converse College (2-2) 25-1.
Lock Haven’s offense was firing on all cylinders as 13 different players scored for The Haven.
Freshman Kate Smyth (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) put LHU up 1-0 just 19 seconds into the game and it was 4-0 Lady Eagles less than four minutes into the opening half.
Rookie Elyse Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) led Lock Haven with a five-point outing. She scored three goals and recorded two assists.
Smyth finished with three goals and senior Amber Hoch (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) also posted the hat trick.
Heather Sacko (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), a freshman got the nod between the pipes and made two saves.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Friday, March 6 at 3:30 p.m. against Limestone College in South Carolina. LHU and Limestone were tied for the number-four spot in this week’s Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association: IWLCA/Under Armour D-II Poll.
