Lacrosse edged by Limestone in thrilling early season showdown between two of the nation’s best

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The No. 4 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (1-1) dropped a hard-fought battle on the road at Limestone College (4-0) 11-10 this afternoon in South Carolina.

The two teams share the identical number-four national ranking, according to the latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)/Under Armour Division II poll.

The Haven broke into the scoring column first, as senior Amber Hoch (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) found the back of the net just 34 seconds in to put LHU up 1-0.

Leigh Titus (Towaco, N.J./Montville) quickly put LHU up 2-0 as Lock Haven’s offense was clicking early.

Limestone would bounce back and took a 6-5 lead into the break.

Less than six minutes into the second half Titus knotted the game at 6-6, but the hosts responded yet again, and went on a four-goal run that put them ahead 10-6.

The Lady Eagles wouldn’t be outdone and with just over three minutes to play in regulation Allison Berger (Oreland, Pa./Springfield) tied the game at 10-10.

Limestone however responded again on its home field and found the game-winner with just 35 seconds left on the game-clock.

Hoch and Titus led the way for LHU as each player netted a hat trick.

Four other players scored for Lock Haven.

Freshman Kayleigh Johnson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) had a four-point game as she scored one goal and assisted on three others. Her three assists were a game-high.

Rookie Heather Sacko (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) got the second start of her career and made eight saves in goal.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Sunday, March 8 when they travel to Lehigh University to take on Molloy College. The contest is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
