KANEOHE, Hawaii – The No. 15 Lock Haven University softball team (6-4) split a doubleheader with Hawaii Pacific (15-3) as the Lady Eagles wrapped up spring break play from the Aloha State.
The Lady Eagles took game one 1-0, but dropped game two 3-2.
Senior Nancy O’Connor (West Chester, Pa./West Chester) scored the only run of the first contest in the seventh inning on an RBI-single to left field.
Erica Eisenbise (Wernersville, Pa./Wilson) led the way for The Haven at the plate, as she went 2-for-3 and scored the winning run.
Kristen Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) had a strong showing in the circle, as she picked up the shutout victory. In seven innings of work, Erb gave up seven hits and struck out five batters. She only gave up one walk.
Game two of the doubleheader was another low-scoring affair as The Haven mounted a comeback in the late innings, but it was not enough to pick up the doubleheader sweep.
The Lady Eagles were held scoreless until back-to-back one run innings in the fifth and sixth frames.
Julia Popovich (Lemont, Pa./State College) scored the first run off of a throwing error by the Sea Warriors.
O’Connor kept the bat going in the sixth when she scored the second run for Lock Haven with an RBI-double to center.
The Lady Eagles made their best effort for a seventh-inning rally, but a pair of fielder’s choices put an end to the comeback.
Senior Illia Lopez (Bllomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) led the way for all Lock Haven hitters by going 3-for-4.
Erb also pitched game two, but was credited with the loss. She pitched six innings, gave up nine hits and struck out seven. She also gave up three earned runs.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Friday, March 13 when they travel to West Virginia to take on West Virginia State in the Glenville State Tournament. The Lady Eagles are scheduled to take the field at 10 a.m.
