GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The No. 19 Lock Haven University softball team (8-4) picked up two wins today at the Glenville State College Tournament.
Lock Haven downed West Virginia State 6-0 in the first game of the day and beat host-Glenville 7-0 in The Haven’s second game of the day.
Glenville is hosting a 16 team West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVICA)/Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover Tournament that kicked off today and runs until Sunday.
LHU won game one today against West Virginia State 6-0, as Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) went the distance in the pitching-circle. She went all seven innings and struck out nine. She walked one batter and allowed only six hits on the way to the shutout-win.
The Lady Eagles six runs came off eight hits.
Lock Haven went deep on three separate occasions as Ilia Lopze (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg), Amanda Gutmaker (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Northeast) and Brittany Muthard (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) all hit home runs for LHU.
Gutmaker was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Muthard went 2-for-2 with a three-run homer.
Erb was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Lock Haven downed host-Glenville 7-0 in the second game of the day.
Julia Popovich (Lemont, Pa./State College) paved the way for the win, as she pitched a complete-game one-hitter. She struck out five and walked two.
Lock Haven’s seven runs came off 12 hits.
Gutmaker was 3-for-3 with one run scored, a stolen base and a RBI.
Erb, Sarah Norris (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and Amanda Roosa (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) all went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Roosa had two RBIs.
Nancy O’Connor (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East ) added a two-run triple to help fuel Lock Haven’s offense.
Lock Haven is back in action tomorrow at the Glenville Tournament. LHU takes on the University of Charleston at 4 p.m. and Ohio Valley at 6 p.m.
