LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (7-13, 3-1 PSAC West) swept Indiana (Pa.) University (5-3, 1-3 PSAC West) in doubleheader action this afternoon in the first home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division contest at Foundation Field during the 2009 season.

Game one of the afternoon was a thrilling extra-inning matchup that ended 5-4 in the bottom of the tenth when Bald Eagle senior Evan Petro (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) snuck a ground ball through the infield, which allowed Ryan Griffin (Landsdale, Pa./Methacton) to score the game-winning run.

Petro and designated hitter Jordan Yohn (Three Springs, Pa./South Huntingdon) led all Lock Haven hitters with two hits each.

Tyler Rumsey (Mansfield, Pa./Manfield) got the start on the mound for the Haven and pitched three innings before being relieved by Josh Rote (McEllhattan, Pa./Central Mountain), who picked up the win off a solid seven innings of work. Rote gave up just two hits.

Game two was when the Bald Eagles fired on all cylinders and defeated IUP 9-1 in five innings, as the game was called because of darkness.

Jeremie Cook (Venice, Fla./Venice) got the start and the win after surrendering just one run off six hits. Cook was spectacular on the mound and struck out seven, while giving up no walks.

Seven Bald Eagle players had at least one hit in the win and LHU was led by Petro and Matt McCamley (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) as each had two hits.

Petro also had a game-high four RBIs.

Lock Haven led 9-1 with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning when game was called because of darkness.

Solid pitching was certainly the key over the last two days for The Haven, who is 3-1 in conference ation.

IUP is currently ranked No. 7 in the Atlantic Region, according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

The Bald Eagles are set to return to action on Friday, March 20 when they host Shippensburg University. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
