LHU Soccer - Women

Women’s Soccer Falls in Close Battle with Clarion

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (1-2, 0-1 PSAC West) fell to Clarion University (1-1, 1-0 PSAC West) in a very tightly contested 2-1 battle at home today.

The Lady Eagles came out looking quite sharp in the early going dictating the flow of the game from the opening whistle.

Lock Haven’s early pressure paid off as they took an early 1-0 lead just 3:39 into the match.

Sophomore Heidi Weller (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) took a pass from senior-captain Kyleigh Roth (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) and put it home from out in front of the goal.

Defensively the Lady Eagles looked very strong and consistent to close the half as the Haven continued to control ball possession as both teams headed into the break.

Clarion tied the game in the 53rd minute and less than 10 minutes later, they found themselves up 2-1 after their second goal of the game.

LHU pushed the pace down the stretch, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

Freshman Arielle Gordon (Epharta, Pa./Epharta) provided a spark in that stretch as she continued to make runs and create chances for LHU.

The Lady Eagles best chance to draw even came with just over a minute left in game as junior Sam Engard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) ripped a left-footed shot on goal, but Clarion’s keeper was their to make a terrific stop.

Senior Emily Wagner (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) played all 90 minutes in net for LHU and made four saves.

The Lady Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. when they travel to West Chester University.
