LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (8-14) split a doubleheader with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival Shippensburg University (10-16) today at Foundation Field in a non-division matchup.
Despite a Bald Eagle two-run rally in the seventh inning of game one, Shippensburg took home the win 8-5.
The Bald Eagles responded in a big way and took home a lopsided 10-2 win in game two of the twin bill.
In game one Zach Shuler (York Haven, Pa./Spring Grove) and Teddy Stake (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) led the offense for The Haven with a team-high three hits. Stake also had a team-high two RBIs and Schuler drove in one run in the loss.
Matt Palko (Freeland, Pa./Hazelton Area) and Evan Petro (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) both went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Andrew Simonik (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland High School) took the loss on the mound. He gave up seven runs on nine hits, walked two batters and struck out six in four innings of work.
Stephen Brush (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and Bobby Fiala (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Everglades) pitched the final two innings of relief for Lock Haven.
Game two of the doubleheader saw seven Bald Eagles in the lineup have at least one hit in the 10-2 win.
The Lock Haven sluggers were led by catcher Brian Kochik (Snow Shoe, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) who went 3-for-4 for at the dish while driving in three runs.
Stake and Ryan Griffin (Landsdale, Pa./Methacton) had two RBIs each in the win.
Josh Rote (McEllhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) was strong on the mound giving up just four hits. Rote walked only four and recorded four strikeouts in six innings of work.
Fiala came in to relieve Rote and secured the win in the seventh. He gave up two hits and one run in his one inning on the mound.
The Bald Eagles are back in action tomorrow (Saturday, March 21) when they travel to Shippensburg for a non-divisional doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
