ST. LOUIS – Senior Matt Fittery (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) of the Lock Haven University wrestling team went 1-1 today on the second day of competition at the NCAA Division I Wrestling National Championships.
Fittery, who went 1-1 yesterday, wrapped up a sensational career in crimson and white.
The 149-pounder kicked off his second straight National Championship yesterday with an upset of Penn State’s Bubba Jenkins, who was the tournaments number-two seed.
Fittery took home a win in his first bout today, as he downed Cornell’s Daniel Meagher 7-3. Fittery led 4-0 after the opening period, as he scored on a takedown and quickly recorded two near fall points. He followed that up with an escape and a takedown in the second to tack on three more points.
Fittery closed out his NCAA Championship with a loss to American University’s Kyle Borshoff, who recorded the fall at 4:26.
