Haven track & field kicks off 2009 Outdoor Season
 

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s outdoor track & field team kicked of the 2009 Outdoor Season yesterday at the Lynchburg Invitational.

There were several very solid early season performances yesterday as both the Bald and Lady Eagles will be looking for big things outdoors this year.

Highlighting the performances on the women’s side was a 1-2 finish in the 10K. Lindsey Lambert (Howell, N.J./Howell) won the 10K with a time of 38:02.57 and Janelle Gobel (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) was second with a time of 41:16.34.

Lauren Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) placed third in the high jump (1.57 meters) and Courtney Whitmoyer (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) was fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.04.

The Lady Eagles were also very solid in the throwing events as expected. Their best performance came in the hammer throw as LHU went 3-4-5, led by a third-place showing by Vanita Moses (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy). Moses was third with a mark of 44.86 meters and was followed by Kristina Hamm (Roaring Springs, Pa./Central) and Alaina Leonard (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern). Hamm was fourth with a mark of 43.39 meters and Leonard was fifth with a heave of 42.89.

Karle Myers (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) was fourth in the discus.

On the men’s side Lock Haven crowned two champions on the day.

Brandon Pomerantz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) won the 800 with a time of 1:58.40 and Tim Getz (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) took first in the 10K with a time of 31:41.67.

Nathan Zondlo (Avoca, Pa./Pittston Area), fresh off his NCAA Indoor Championship appearance turned in a solid steeplechase debut with a fourth-place finish (9:45.90).

The Bald Eagles 4x400 meter relay team also claimed first place with a time of 3:21.04.

Tyler Thomas (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) added a fifth place finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.63 meters. He was also eighth in the hammer throw.

Logan Wolfe (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) turned in sixth-place finish in the discus with a mark of 44.81 meters.

The Haven is back in action on Saturday, April 4 at California (Pa) University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) mandated meet.
