MANSFIELD, Pa. – The No. 15 Lock Haven University softball team (17-4) opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division play in a big way, as the Lady Eagles swept Mansfield University (0-2) today at Mansfield.
Lock Haven won 9-0 and 2-1
Senior pitcher Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) set the tone for LHU with a perfect game in the first game of the doubleheader. Erb, who threw a no-hitter on Sunday, now has nine no-hitters and five perfect games in her already remarkable career.
On the way to the perfect game, Erb struck out 13 in six innings.
Erica Eisenbise (Wernersville, Pa./Wilson) had a solid day at the plate with a 3-for-4 outing, while also driving in a run.
Brittany Muthard (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Amanda Roosa (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) recorded two RBIs.
Ilia Lopez (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) homered in the big game-one win for LHU.
LHU led 3-0 heading into the top of the sixth and put it away with a six-run sixth inning.
In game two of the day, Mansfield took a 1-0 lead after picking up a run the bottom of the first inning.
LHU tied the game in the fourth and the Lady Eagles scored the eventual game-winning run in the fifth inning.
Erb got the win in game two with another solid effort in the pitching circle, as she hurled a one-hitter. She went the distance and struck out nine, while allowing zero walks.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the top of the fifth Roosa drove in Lopez, which proved to be the eventual game-winning run. Roosa’s eventual game-winning single came with two outs.
Lock Haven’s two runs came off six hits and Lopez led the way with a 2-for-4 performance.
Lock Haven returns to action on Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m. when the Lady Eagles host Mercyhurst.
