LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 5 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (8-2) rolled past visiting East Stroudsburg University (2-5) 22-10 today on Charlotte E. Smith Field.
The Lady Eagles bounced back from a loss Thursday night to No. 6 Mercyhurst in a big way, as the offense was firing on all cylinders.
Lock Haven poured it on early and often and led 16-6 at halftime, on its way to the lopsided victory.
Nine different players scored for The Haven, who took the 1-0 led just 33 seconds into the contest on goal by Jamie Uzialko (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima).
Uzialko finished with two goals and two assists.
Amber Hoch (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) had a huge game for LHU, turning in a seven-point outing. She scored six goals and assisted one other.
Leigh Titus (Towaco, N.J./Montville) scored four goals and added on helper in the win.
Kayleigh Johnston (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) had a solid offensive outing with a four-point performance. She scored twice and set up two other LHU tallies.
LHU led 2-1 with 28:03 left in the first half, before the Lady Eagles rallied off seven straight goals to set the tone for the big halftime lead.
LHU edged ESU 6-4 in the second half of play, but the offensive damage had already been done in the first 30 minutes of play.
Heather Sacko (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) got the start in net and made three saves. Kira Nuttall (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) played 15 plus minutes in the cage and recorded two stops.
2008 All-American Kathleen Zichelli (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) had another tremendous outing on the defensive side of the ball. She picked up eight groundballs and caused five turnovers.
The win was a special one for the Lady Eagle lacrosse program, as it came on day where The Haven took time on honor past greats.
2009 is a historic year for Lock Haven, as it marks the 30th anniversary of Lock Haven’s only women’s lacrosse National Championship. The Lady Eagles won the 1979 United States Women’s Lacrosse Association Division II National Championship.
Today the Lady Eagles took time to welcome back members of the ’79 team in honor of their tremendous success 30 years ago.
Lock Haven is back in action on Wednesday, April 1 at 7 p.m. on the road at Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division action.
