LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The No. 9 Lock Haven University softball team (19-4) picked up its second doubleheader sweep in a row as LHU beat Mercyhurst College (10-13) twice this afternoon in the Lady Eagles 2009 home opener at Lawrence Field.
Lock Haven won 3-1 and 2-0.
Pitcher Kristen Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) continued her dominance in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this afternoon by giving up a total of just six hits while striking out 12 MC batters on her way to picking up both complete-game wins.
Sarah Norris (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) had the offense going for The Haven as she went 2-for-3 at the plate and had one RBI in the game one win. She also scored all three runs for LHU.
Amanda Roosa (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) and Erica Eisenbise (Wernersville, Pa./Wilson) also had one hit each for the Lady Eagles.
Roosa also had one RBI in the win.
Erb helped out her own cause on the offensive end by going 1-for-2 and she drove in one run.
Game two was a low-scoring pitcher’s dual, as the Lady Eagles broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning and added another run in the fifth to secure the inter-division sweep.
Julia Popovich (Lemont, Pa./State College), Illia Lopez (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) and Brittany Muthard (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) had one hit apiece as the trio accounted for LHU’s three hits in the game. .
Roosa drove in the first run of the game when Lopez tagged from third and scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Muthard had the team’s other RBI when she singled to right field and Amanda Gutmaker (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Northeast) scored the insurance run for LHU.
Lock Haven will be back in action on Monday, March 30 when they travel to California (Pa.) for a PSAC inter-division doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
