#9 Lady Eagles sweep #15 Cal (Pa.) in PSAC crossover action, LHU wins 1-0 (8 inn.) & 3-0

CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The No. 9 Lock Haven University softball team (21-4) swept a doubleheader today at No. 15 California (Pa.) University (22-4) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action.

The Lady Eagles won game 1-0 in extra innings and took game two 2-0.

Game one was a phenomenal pitcher’s duel between Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and Cal’s Maria Greco.

The two combined for 23 strikeouts and the game saw only six hits.

Lock Haven picked up the game’s only run in the top of the eighth inning, and Erb sat the Vulcan batters down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eighth, as Lock Haven took home the win.

Erb, who worked all eight innings in the circle struck out 11 and allowed zero walks. She gave up just three hits.

Amanda Gutmaker (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Northeast) got the bats going in the eighth with a lead-off double to right center.

A sacrifice bunt from Brittany Muthard (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) moved Gutmaker to third base. With one away, and Gutmaker at third, a wild pitch allowed Gutmaker to get home for the eventual game-winning run.

Gutmaker’s score put LHU up 1-0 and the Cal bats went down in order, sealing the deal for LHU.

Lock Haven jumped all over Cal early in game two, tacking on two runs in the first inning. LHU added an insurance-run in the top of fifth to seal the shutout win.

Erb picked up the win in the complete-game shutout. She game gave up six hits and struck out a pair.

Lock Haven’s three runs came off 10 hits.

Amanda Roosa (Pompton Lakes, N.J../Pompton Lakes) led the way at the plate with a 3-for-4 outing.

Ilia Lopez (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Nancy O’Connor (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) added a 2-for-3 outing.
