LOCK HAVEN, Pa.-The Lock Haven University baseball team (11-19) had both games of its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) inter-divisional doubleheader with Bloomsburg University (12-18) end in exciting fashion, as the two teams split the games this afternoon at Foundation Field.
The Haven dropped game one 6-5 in nine innings and took game two 9-8 with a exciting bottom of the seventh.
Catcher Brian Kochik (Snow Shoe, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) and Zach Schuler (York Haven, Pa./Spring Grove) led the Bald Eagle offense in game one.
Kochik went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored one run, while Schuler had a team-high two RBIs.
Evan Petro (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) and Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) also had one RBI each in the loss.
Kevin Kochka (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) also had a solid day swinging the bat, as he went 1-for-2 with one RBI and drove in the tying run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Josh Rote (McEllhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) got the start on the mound for the Bald Eagles and pitched a strong five innings, surrendering four runs off three hits.
Rote also walked three batters and struck out five.
Tyler Golden (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) relieved Rote and gave up two runs off five hits, walked two and struck out five in four innings of work in the loss.
Game two was another nail-biter, as Lock Haven fought back from 6-2 deficit to secure the win in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Haven bats were pinging, as seven Bald Eagles recorded hits in the win.
Strouse had a team-high three hits and two RBIs, including the game-winning single.
Matt Palko (Freeland, Pa./Hazelton Area) and Matt McCamley (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) also had two hits and two RBIs.
Kochik, Jeremie Cook (Venice, Fla./Venice) and Ryan Griffin (Landsdale, Pa./Methacton) also had one hit.
Four Bald Eagle hurlers split time on the mound in game two.
Bobby Fiala ( Pembroke Pines, Fla./Everglades) got the nod on the mound, while Kochik, Jeremy Lombardo (Dickson, Tenn./Pennridge) and Stephen Brush (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) all saw action in relief.
It was Kochik, picking up the win.
The Bald Eagles will be back in action on Friday, April 3 when they travel to Slippery Rock University. First pitch of the PSAC West doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
