Track & Field: Bald and Lady Eagles each win PSAC West Challenge at California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track & field team turned in a solid outing today the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Challenge, hosted by California (Pa.) University.

Both the Bald and Lady Eagles took top honors winning their respective team races.

The Haven men took first overall with 247.50 points. Slippery Rock was second (140) and host-California rounded out the top-three.

The Haven women were first with 244 points, 33-points better than second-place Slippery Rock. Cal was third on the women’s side with 92.50 points.

Leading the way for the Bald Eagles was Chris Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), who turned in a pair of individual victories, while also competing on Lock Haven’s winning 4x400 meter relay team.

Edelman won the 200 meter dash (21.83) and the 400 meter dash (47.81), as he turned in sensational early season times in both events.

Edelman's time in the 400 was a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark.

Randy Sylvia (Johnstown, Pa./Pine Richland) was also a double-winner for LHU with a first place showing in the discus and hammer throws.

Sylvia's mark in the hammer throw established a school record.

On the day the LHU men took home top honors in a total of seven different individual events and also won both relays (4x4 & 4x100 meter relay).

Much like the men’s side, the Lady Eagles also crowned seven individual champions.

2009 PSAC Indoor Female Field Athlete of the Year Chelsea Morse (Beaver Dams, N.Y.Campbell-Savona) led the way with a win in the high jump. She was followed closely by freshman Lauren Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), who was second.

Morse's winning mark in the high jump was a D-II provisional mark.

The Lady Eagles once again got huge points from their throwing unit.

A bright spot for The Haven women was their 1-2-3-4 finish in the triple jump.

Malika Miller (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) took first overall and was followed by Kristie Warren (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), Edelman and Cassie Snider (Dallas, Pa./Dallas).

Lock Haven is back in action on Friday, April 10 when it competes at the Bucknell Open.
