EAST STROUDSURG, Pa. – The No. 5 Lock Haven University softball team (30-5) picked up a doubleheader sweep today on the road at East Stroudsburg University (16-13).
The Lady Eagles, who moved up one spot in this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll won game one, 8-0 in five innings and The Haven took game two, 4-1.
In game one, Lock Haven’s eight runs came off 10 hits.
It was catcher Amanda Roosa (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) leading the way at the plate, as she turned in a 3-for-3 outing. She hit one home run and drove in a game-best four runs.
Amanda Gutmaker (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Northeast) was solid with the bat and went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) was tremendous in the circle and gave up just two hits in five innings.
Erb struck out nine and walked no ESU batters.
Lock Haven tacked on a run in each of the first two innings, before posting two runs in the top of the third to pave the way for the shutout that ended after five innings.
Lock Haven downed host-ESU 4-1 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Erb picked up the win after seven innings of work. She recorded nine strikeouts and gave up seven hits. She was charged with one earned-run.
Erb helped her own cause with two hits on the day. She also drove in one run.
Erica Eisenbise (Wernersville, Pa./Wilson) went 2-for-4 at the plate with one home run.
The Haven’s four runs came off nine hits.
LHU went up 1-0 in the second, but ESU tied the game in the bottom of the third.
The Lady Eagles would go on to score two in the fifth and they tacked on an insurance run in the top of the sixth to pick up the sweep of ESU on the road.
Lock Haven returns to action tomorrow (Thursday, April 9) at 2:30 p.m. when the Lady Eagles host Mansfield in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division action. LHU is 7-1 in PSAC Central action and swept Mansfield earlier in the year.
