Bald Eagles sweep Clarion in PSAC West doubleheader

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (14-26, 8-8 PSAC West) took both games of the doubleheader this afternoon at Foundation Field against Clarion University (13-20, 6-10 PSAC West) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division play.

LHU won game one, 2-1 and the Bald Eagles took game two, 7-3.

Four Bald Eagles had hits in the game-one win.

Evan Petro (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) and Ted Stake (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) picked up one RBI each in the game.

Petro’s sacrifice fly to centerfield tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of third inning.

Stake’s fielder’s choice that drove in teammate Zach Schuler (York Haven, Pa./Spring Grove) gave LHU the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth.

Tyler Rumsey (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) shut down the Clarion offense in the top of the seventh to secure the complete game, one run victory.

Rumsey allowed one run off three hits and struck out seven in the win.

In game two, Lock Haven exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second inning to make sure that starting pitcher Jeremie Cook (Venice, Fla./Venice) had enough run support on his way to picking up the game-two win.

Matt McCamley (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) Matt Palko (Freeland, Pa./Hazelton Area) and Ryan Griffin (Landsdale, Pa./Methacton) all had strong days at the plate in game two, as they each went 2-for-3.

McCamley ignited the second-inning onslaught, as his double would drive in the first two runs.

Mark Strouse (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) also had two RBIs, as his single added to the lead in the second inning. Griffin also had one RBI in the win.

Cook had a strong outing, pitching 6.1 innings on the way to the win. He gave up three runs off five hits and struck out five. Cook also walked seven batters.

Josh Rote (McEllhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) finished out the seventh in the role of the closer. He did not allow hit or run, walked two and struck out one to pick up the save.

LHU returns to action tomorrow, April, 14 when they host Millersville University in a PSAC inter-divisional matchup. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
