LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Sophomore Andrew Simonik (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) of the Lock Haven University baseball team has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Pitcher of the week for this recent efforts on the mound for the Bald Eagles.
Simonik was a key in helping the Bald Eagles cap off the regular season with a 5-1 record last week.
This is the second such honor this season for Simonik.
He picks up the award after a complete game, two-hit shutout in Lock Haven’s 3-0 win over Gannon University on Friday afternoon.
The win came in the first game of LHU and Gannon’s PSAC West twin bill and it set up a sweep on an emotional day for LHU baseball fans.
The Bald Eagles’ sweep of the doubleheader against the Golden Knights on Friday clinched the final PSAC playoff spot in the West for Lock Haven.
In going the distance, Simonik struck out six, walked four and faced just four batters over the minimum, as he got Gannon to hit into three double plays.
Simonik and the rest of the Bald Eagles return to action on Monday, May 4 when they kick off PSAC playoff action in Lancaster, Pa. at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
