#3 Lady Eagles cruise past rival-Bloomsburg 8-1 for 4th consecutive PSAC Championship
 

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 3 Lock Haven University softball team (41-6) made it four in a row today, as the Lady Eagles down rival-Bloomsburg University (34-9) 8-1 on their way to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship.

It marked Lock Haven’s fourth straight conference crown after cruising past Bloomsburg, the tournaments No. 3 seed and nation’s 15th ranked team, 8-1.

LHU’s bats came alive, as The Haven’s eight runs came off eight hits with Lock Haven jumping all over the Huskies early.

Championship MVP, Julia Popovich (Lemont, Pa./State College) led the way with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. She drove in a game-high four runs, including the eventual game-winner, which came in the top of the second inning, as Lock Haven was playing as the visiting team today on Lawrence Field.

Popovich, a senior also scored one run and played tremendous defense in left field.

Along with Lock Haven’s solid run support, the Lady Eagles also got another solid outing from senior-ace Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township).

Erb went the distance and recorded six strikeouts in the win. She gave up only five hits and allowed one run, while allowing no free passes over seven innings of work.

Brittany Muthard (Northhampton, Pa./Northhampton) had a solid day the plate with a 2-for-3 outing. She tallied three RBIs and scored one run.

Four other Lady Eagles recorded hits for LHU, including senior Nancy O’Connor (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), who recorded a two-out double in the second inning, giving Lock Haven all the momentum they needed to put the Huskies away.

LHU eventually led 3-0 after two innings of play and poured it on in the sixth inning with a five-run effort.

Bloom advanced to face LHU, by way of a 8-1 win over No. 8 Kutztown in the day's earlier game. KU was the tournament's No. 2 seed.

Lock Haven returns to action next weekend when they take part NCAA Division II Atlantic Region First Round action. The tournament kicks off on Friday, May 7 and runs until Sunday, May 10.
