LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Three players from the No. 3 Lock Haven University women’s lacrosse team have been honored with Women’sLacrosse.com Weekly Awards for their recent efforts in leading the Lady Eagles to victory in NCAA Division II Championship First Round action.
Lock Haven downed No. 5 Mercyhurst 17-11, thanks in large part to the play from Kathleen Zichelli (South Orange, N.J./Columbia), Kate Smyth (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) and Amber Hoch (Souderton, Pa./Souderton).
Zichelli picked up D-II Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Smyth was named D-II Rookie of the Week.
Hoch earned a spot on the D-II Weekly Honor Roll.
Zichelli led Lock Haven’s defensive effort in the win over MC with five draw controls and five caused turnovers. She also picked up four ground balls.
LHU and MC were tied 8-8 heading into the second half, but Smyth helped spark a five-goal run that eventually led Lock Haven to the win. She scored the Lady Eagles first two goals of the second half in less than a minute and scored four of her five goals in the second 30 minutes of play.
Hoch led all scorers in the game with a six-goal performance.
