Trio of Lady Eagles named to 2009 Daktronics All-Region Team

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Three members of the No. 2 Lock Haven University softball team have been awarded 2009 Daktronics All-Atlantic Region accolades.

Headlining the team was senior-ace Kristin Erb (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), who was named Daktronics Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year.

Joining Erb on the First Team was shortstop Ilia Lopez (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg)

Outfielder Erica Eisenbise (Wernersville, Pa./Wilson) picked up Second Team honors.

This award comes after Erb was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division Pitcher of the Year.

In the pitching circle, Erb has a team-best 0.45 ERA with 43 wins (43-4) and 344 strikeouts to-date.

When facing Erb, opponents have struggled collectively, as she issued just 22 walks, while giving up only one home run so far this season. She’s restricting batters to a collective .156 batting average.

Offensively, Erb has a .284 batting-average with four home runs and 24 RBIs.

Lopez leads the team in three offensive categories to-date, including hits (58), RBIs (38) and doubles (14). She also shares the team lead in stolen bases with 13 and has contributed eight home runs so far this season.

It is not just Lopez’s play at the plate that has helped her secure the first team nod. At short, she has 48 putouts and 66 assists.

Eisenbise has the fourth best batting average for LHU, hitting .338. She has 44 hits, 21 RBIs and has hit three bombs on the season. Defensively, she has 26 putouts, two assists and has committed only three errors in right field this season.

Along with Erb, Steph Denlinger of Kutztown headlines the Daktronics Atlantic Region team, as she was named the Region Player of the Year.

Denlinger took home PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Year, as the two have been key components in their respective teams successes thus far.

The two will go head-to-head this weekend at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Super Regional at Lock Haven’s Lawrence Field.

No. 11 Kutztown led the way, as the Golden Bears nabbed five spots on the All-Region team, including two on the first time.

No. 2 Lock Haven had one other Lady Eagle join Erb on the First Team and they also picked up a second-team selection.

West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Pitcher of the Year Patricia Moreno of West Virginia Wesleyan joined Erb and Bloomsburg’s Shavaun Fisher as First Team Pitchers.

WVIAC Player of the Year Emily Nieman of West Virginia Wesleyan nabbed a spot on the second team Bowie State’s Tricia Corbin represents the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) on the Second Team.

Lock Haven returns to action tomorrow in NCAA Division II Super Regional action. The Lady Eagles are scheduled to take on No. 11 Kutztown at noon at Lawrence Field. The Super Regional is a best-of-three series.
