LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Five members of the Lock Haven University men’s track & field team have earned a spot on the 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Men’s All-Academic Track & Field Team.
Earning a selection on the All-Academic team for The Haven men was Ben McConnell (Danville, Pa./Danville), Chris Edelman ((Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Randy Sylvia (Johnstown, Pa./Richland), Brandon Pomerantz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) and Tim Getz (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg).
McConnell, the only senior in the group capped off a solid career by running on Lock Haven’s Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Champion 4x400 meter relay team.
Edelman, a junior and national qualifier in the 400 meter dash placed third at the PSAC Championships in the same event and was also a part of the LHU’s winning 4x4 relay.
Sylvia, a junior turned in a very solid performance at the conference meet, which was highlighted by his second-place showing in the discus throw. He added a sixth-place showing in the shot put and was 10th in the hammer throw.
Pomerantz, also a junior was eighth at the PSAC Championships in both the 800 and 1,500 meter runs.
Getz, a sophomore was solid for The Haven after a fifth-place finish in the 5K and a sixth-place showing in the 10K at the conference meet.
These five athletes were a huge reason the Bald Eagles took third overall in the team race at the PSAC Championships.
