LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lock Haven University has named Mallory Weisen the new assistant coach for the Lady Eagle field hockey program.
Weisen will assist LHU head coach Pat Rudy (14th season) in all facets of the game.
Weisen is very excited about the next step in her field hockey career.
‘I’m very excited about the next step in my field hockey path,” Weisen said. “I’ve played at a high level and coached on the high school level, but I’m really looking forward to this next step.”
Weisen is a 2008 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
Weisen was an important part of Penn States success during her four-year career for the Lady Lions. Following her senior season, she was named an All-American after a playing a major role in PSU’s National Runner-up finish in 2007.
Rudy is also looking forward to teaming up with Weisen, as the two will look to continue the Lady Eagles rich tradition of field hockey excellence.
“I’m pleased we could attract an assistant with Weisen’s experience,” Rudy said. “She played for a top collegiate program and had a very successful career at Penn State.”
Rudy also noted Weisen’s National Team experience, saying that having someone join the program with elite-level playing experience is a very exciting.
Rudy is also very excited about the connections Weisen has, having spent so much time working on the high school level and coaching at some top level camps.
Most recently, Weisen taught Health and Physical Education in Mifflinburg High School.
Weisen, a member of the Penn States 2005 Big 10 Conference Championship team brings with her a wealth of playing and coaching experience.
While at Penn State, she garnered numerous individual honors, while also helping Penn State to number of team successes. Along with Weisen’s 2007 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Third Team All-American Honor, she was also named to the 2007 NCAA All-Tournament Team. She was a two-time Field Team All Mid-East selection and a two-time Academic All-Big 10 Selection.
Weisen also has National Team experience, having played for the U.S. Under-19 and Under-16 National Teams. She was also a Junior Olympic Selection from 2000 to ‘02.
Weisen has a list of coaching experiences as well, having served as the Assistant Varsity coach at State College High School since 2008. As the assistant varistiy coach at State College, she also assisted with the junior-varsity team. Since 2005, she’s also served as top-level coach at Penn State’s summer camps while helping to run the Penn State Youth Program, by serving as a volunteer assistant. Weisen also served as the head indoor field hockey coach for State College.
In her various coaching positions, Weisen has taught and coached all aspects of the game of field hockey and will prove a valuable asset to the LHU program.
A Middleburg High School graduate, Weisen is still the school’s all-time leading scorer with 94 goals and 60 assists. During her standout high school career, she was named an All-State selection following each of her four seasons.
Lock Haven Director of Athletics Sharon E. Taylor is quite pleased with the hire as well.
“I am very pleased that coach Rudy invited Mallory (Weisen) to join our coaching staff,” Taylor said. “She brings with her an outstanding playing career at the highest levels of NCAA and U.S. field hockey. Also, coming out of the Penn State program, Mallory has been schooled in high standards for competition and conduct that we value in our program. She is a fine young woman and a great addition to our staff.”
