TAMPA, Fla. – The Lock University volleyball team (0-1) dropped its 2009 season opener tonight on the road at No. 10 Tampa (1-0) 3-0 as part of the Tampa Classic.

Tampa took the match 25-14, 25-20 and 25-23 on its home court.

LHU head coach Tom Justice was pleased with his team’s fight tonight particularly in the third game where the Lady Eagles led most of the way.

Sophomore Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) the 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Rookie of the Year led the way tonight with a team-high 10 kills. Gribler hit .380 over the three-game match.

Christina Laury (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was solid tonight with 12 digs and one ace.

Senior Christie Naumann (Charters Towers, Australia/Gladstone) and freshman Xuan Gao (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School) each had eight kills. Nuamann also had five digs while Gao had one ace and four digs.

Fabiana Gomez (Montevideo, Uruguay/Consejo de E.S.) had a team-high 30 assists and four digs.

The Lady Eagles return to action tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 28) at the Tampa Classic. LHU takes on Georgian Court at 5 p.m.
