TAMPA, Fla. – The Lock University volleyball team (2-1) picked up its second win in a row as the Lady Eagles downed Wheeling Jesuit 3-0 today, wrapping up competition at the Tampa Classic.
LHU won 25-17, 25-17 and 25-20 to make it two wins in a row. Lock Haven kicked off the 2009 season on Thursday night with a loss to host and No. 10 ranked Tampa.
Lady Eagle head coach Tom Justice was very pleased with his team’s clutch-hitting today.
Christie Naumann (Charters Towers, Australia/Gladstone) led LHU with eight kills. She also added two aces and 18 digs.
Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) and Xuan Gao (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School) each had seven kills for Lock Haven in the win. Gribler also added a pair of aces.
Fabiana Gomez (Montevideo/ Uraguay/Consejor de E.S.) led Lock Haven in assists and digs with 23 and 21, respectively.
Christina Laury (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) racked up 16 digs to help pace The Haven’s winning effort.
Lock Haven returns to action on Friday, September 4 at the Hilton Garden Inn-vitational hosted by Dowling University. LHU faces of against Dowling first at 4:30 p.m.
