Women’s Soccer falls to #8 SRU 5-1 in PSAC West action
 

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock University women’s soccer team (1-1, 0-1 PSAC West) fell to No. 8 Slippery Rock University (2-0, 1-0 PSAC West) 5-1 today in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division opener for both teams.

The Lady Eagles were coming off a 12-0 win over Ohio Valley on Saturday and came out today looking poised for the upset.

Lock Haven took the 1-0 lead in the 19th minute after dominating the early part of the match.

It was defender and LHU captain Courtney Johnson (Alexandria, Va./Edison), who put Lock Haven up 1-0 after drilling a 24-yard shot to the upper corner.

SRU leveled the scored at 1-1 in the 33rd minute of play.

Slippery Rock, ranked No. 8 in the nation and No. 1 in the Atlantic Region scored four second half goals to pave the way for the win.

Sophomores Hayley Zinn (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) and Kim Bentley (Springdale, Pa./Springdale) split time in net, as each played a half.

Bentley was sensational in the opening 45 minutes of play and made three saves. Zinn kept Lock Haven alive in the second with five stops.

Lock Haven returns to action on Sunday, September 6 at 1 p.m. when the Lady Eagles travel to Mercyhurst for PSAC West action.
