UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (2-1) dropped its first game of the 2009 season as the Lady Eagles fell to No. 11 and local-rival Penn State (1-2) 3-1 today at University Park.
Lock Haven went up 1-0 in the 20th minute after sophomore Kristi Shepps (Willow Street, Pa./ Penn Manor) knocked home a rebound in front of the cage.
The goal marked the third of the year for Shepps, who currently leads the team that category.
Shepps and Lady Eagles took the 1-0 lead into halftime, but PSU drew even in the 42nd minute.
Hannah Allison scored her second goal of the match in the 57th minute to put Penn State up 2-1 and the Lady Lions added an insurance goal with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation.
Junior Erin Terreson (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad) made 12 saves in the cage for LHU.
The Lady Eagles are back in action on Sunday, September 6 at 1 p.m. when they play host to Vermont in their 2009 home-opener.
