ERIE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (1-2, 0-2 PSAC West) dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West match today on the road at Mercyhurst College (2-2, 2-0 PSAC West) 3-1.
The host Lakers scored all three of their goals in the opening 45 minutes of play and took the 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Sophomore Amy Wittman (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) scored the Lady Eagles only goal of the match.
Wittman’s tally came in the 71st minute as Lock Haven looked to mount the comeback, but couldn’t find the back of the net in the remaining 19 minutes of play.
Wittman’s goal came off an assist from junior Arielle Gordon (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata).
Sophomores Hayley Zinn (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) and Kim Bentley (Springdale, Pa./Springdale) both saw time in net for LHU. Bentley got the start and made one save, while Zinn came up with six.
LHU head coach Heather Davis was very pleased with efforts of Kortney Morral on defense and also noted the all-around solid play of Gordon on the day.
