LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team and head coach Tom Justice have announced their 2009 recruiting class.
Six players will join the Lady Eagles this fall.
Justice’s recruiting class is made up of Gina Lurry (Lorian, Ohio/Southview High School), Erin Walsh (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem), Alexa Garrity (Boothwyn, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara), Grace Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell), Erica Rice (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and Xuan Gao (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School).
Lurry, an outside hitter, who also ran track in high school, was an All-Conference volleyball player. Justice calls her very quick and explosive and a player, who should adapt well.
Walsh, an extremely decorated high school player will look to make in an immediate impact for the Lady Eagles. She was the 2007 and 2008 Express Times Player of the Year, which are just two of her lof impressive accolades. Justice will look for her to make the transition to college ball and help the team very quickly. An outside hitter in high school, Walsh could see time as the libero/defensive specialist.
Garrity is a setter and was an All-State player in high school. Justice feels she may have been the top setter in the state of Pennsylvania last year and his very much looking forward to her Lady Eagle career.
Novacek was a first team All-WPIAL selection last season and a player with a ton of potential. A middle blocker, Justice calls her an extremely intelligent player, who will make immediate contributions.
Rice, a middle blocker was a Lebanon League All Star, who has a lot of potential.
Xuan, an outside hitter is an all-around great player according to Justice.
All six players will look to make major contributions from the opening serve of the 2009 season.
