LHU Soccer - Men

Bald Eagles top Davis & Elkins 1-0 in double overtime

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (1-2-1) needed 90 plus minutes, but the Bald Eagles picked up their first win of the 2009 season as they downed Davis & Elkins College 1-0 on the road in double overtime.

Both teams fought hard through regulation of the non-conference match and the two sides remained scoreless after the first 10 minutes of overtime.

Lock Haven however was able to secure the win after a goal-mouth scramble late in the second overtime that led to a Davis & Elkins own-goal.

LHU head coach Doug Moore called it a very scrappy game and said both teams had chances to score throughout.

Moore felt his side was the better one particularity in the second half where the Bald Eagles had two very good chances to score.

The first came from freshman Steve Kretzer (Warfordsburg, Pa./Smithsburg – Md.), who smashed a ball off the crossbar.

Shortly after Kretzer almost put Lock Haven up, sophomore striker Billy Pasukinis (Benton, Pa./Benton) had a solid chance of his own.

Pasukins was able get around the Davis & Elkins goalkeeper 25 yards out and sent a ball toward an open goal, but a defender was able to rush back and clear the ball off the line.

The Bald Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 12 at 3 p.m. when they play host to Gannon University.
