Volleyball downs Molloy and C.W. Post at LHU Classic
 

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (6-2) picked up two wins today as the Lady Eagles opened play at their own LHU Classic Tournament.

The tournament kicked off this afternoon and runs until tomorrow (Saturday, September 12).

In match one today Lock Haven cruised past Molloy 3-0 (25-11, 25-14 & 25-10).

LHU looked good again in match two and downed C.W. Post 3-0 (25-18, 25-21 & 25-14).

Xuan Gao (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School) led the way in today’s first match with an 11-kill effort. The rookie and reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Player of the Week hit a solid .444 over the three-set match.

Kim Windstein (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) wasn’t far off Xuan’s pace and recorded nine kills to help pace The Haven’s potent offensive attack. Windstein also had a team-high four aces.

Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) was a key in match one with seven kills, as she hit a sizzling .700.

Fabiana Gomez (Montevideo, Uruguay/Consejo de E.S.) and Christina Laury (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) were key contributors for LHU in the win over Molloy. Gomez turned in a match-high 28 assists and Laury tallied 20 digs.

The Lady Eagles were solid again tonight, when they soared past C.W. Post.

Gribler and Christie Naumann (Charters Towers, Australia/Gladstone) each had eight kills in the win over Post.

Xuan wasn’t far off their pace and turned in a seven-kill effort.

Naumann added a team-high three aces in the win.

Laury was again solid and recorded 22 digs, while Gomez turned in a 24-assist match. Gomez also had 18 digs.

The Lady Eagles return to action tomorrow (Saturday, September 12) when the LHU Classic resumes. Lock Haven’s first match of the day is at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. clash with Northern Kentucky.
