Women’s Soccer Pushes #5 SRU to Limit, Falls in Double Overtime
 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (2-5-1, 1-2-1 PSAC West) dropped a hard-fought battle today with No. 5 Slippery Rock University (6-1, 4-0) 2-1 in double overtime today on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Action.

The Lady Eagles found themselves leading until the 84th minute of action as rookie Arielle Gordon (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) put them up 1-0 in the 43rd minute of play.

Gordon beat two SRU defenders and sent a ball far post from 20 yards out marking the first goal of her Haven career.

LHU held strong playing very well on defense including a superb effort from sophomore Sarah Thomas (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial).

Slippery Rock tied the game with less than seven minutes to play sending the game into overtime. In just the second minute of the second overtime period SRU scored on a goal off a goal mouth scramble to win the game.

Senior Emily Wagner (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) played another strong 90 minutes in net making nine saves as she continues tp inch closer to becoming the schools all-time career save leader.

The Lady Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. when the play host to Bloomsburg University.
