LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock University men’s soccer team (3-3-1) rolled past visiting Mercy College (2-3) 4-2 today in a non-conference match.
The Bald Eagles looked dominate throughout and were rewarded for their efforts with the all-important home win. The win helped LHH bounce back from a tough overtime-loss at rival-California (Pa.) University on Wednesday.
Lock Haven, who led 2-1 at halftime, took an early 1-0 lead in just the fifth minute of play.
The Haven was pushing the issue offensively early and the Bald Eagles benefited from the early pressure after Adam Scheibeler (Montoursville, Pa./Elizabethtown College) scored his first career goal.
Mercy quickly tied the match at 1-1 in the 13th minute.
In the 15th minute Billy Pasukinis (Benton, Pa./Benton) sent an acrobatic bicycle kick far post and into the upper corner to put Lock Haven back on top, 2-1 in dramatic fashion. Pasukinis’s spectacular goal was set up by a long throw in from senior defender Andrew Clemens (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest).
Shortly after halftime, freshman David Qaisi (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) made it 3-1, after he headed home a perfect free kick to the far post from Kevin Wolfe (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township). Qaisi’s goal was the first point of his Haven career.
In the 80th minute Greg Shertzer (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) scored off a breakaway.
Lock Haven head coach Doug Moore’s squad was defensively sound throughout despite giving up goal in the 87th minute.
The Bald Eagles got an all-around solid effort from everybody in the lineup and the hard work paid off with the important 4-2 victory.
Chad Badorf (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) got his first career start in goal and made four saves in the win.
Lock Haven is back in action on Monday, September 21 at 2 p.m. when the Bald Eagles play host to Seton Hill at 2 p.m.
