SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lock University men’s soccer team (4-5-2, 1-4 PSAC West) fell to rival and 12th ranked Slippery Rock University (10-1, 5-0 PSAC West) 3-0 today on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
A key for host-Slippery Rock was the three-goal performance from Jeremy Deighton.
Lock Haven goalkeeper Chad Badorf (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) turned in a four-save effort to help keep The Haven in the game.
It was a typical hard-fought battle between the two perennial PSAC powers and the two sides were deadlocked at 0-0 after the opening 45 minutes of play.
Deighton opened the scoring in the 49th minute to make 1-0 in favor of SRU. He then scored twice just 1:02 apart with less than five minutes to play to put the game away for The Rock.
Colin Callaghan (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) did everything he could to spark Lock Haven’s attack and turned in a team-high five shots, but he just couldn’t knock one past Slippery Rock’s keeper.
Slippery Rock held a slight 16-11 advantage in shots.
The Bald Eagles return to action on Tuesday, October 6 at 3 p.m. when they host Mercyhurst University.
