LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Amy Hordendorf’s (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) goal just 3:11 into the match was all the Lock Haven University field hockey team (10-3) needed to top local-rival Bucknell (7-4) in a hard-fought non-conference contest.
Hordendorf’s goal less than four minutes into the contest came after she found the end of a Najia Hassan (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) through ball and tucked it behind the Bucknell’s goalkeeper.
Throughout the remainder of the match, Lock Haven had several good chances to put the game away, but just couldn’t sneak another ball past Bucknell goalkeeper Jessie Atieh.
The Lady Eagles outshot Bucknell 14-7 for the match, as the Bison looked to find an equalizer late, but The Haven defense steadied and help lead LHU to victory.
Defensively, Lock Haven got a tremendous effort from a trio of players including Alanna Lewis (Trinidad & Tobago/Southeast Port-of-Spain), Emma Wessner (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) and Casey Hughes (Schwenksville, Pa./Souderton).
Erin Terreson (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) was only called upon to make one stop, but was there to get the job done for The Haven.
The shutout marked the fourth of the season for Terreson and the Lady Eagles.
Hordendorf’s goal was her team-leading 12th of the season.
Lock Haven is back in action on Friday, October 9 at 4 p.m. when they travel to Siena for NEC action.
