SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (16-4) extended its win streak to eight matches, as the Lady Eagles took home two wins today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover action.
Lock Haven downed Gannon 3-0 (25-18, 25-15 & 25-18) before topping Mercyhurst 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-15 & 25-18).
Xuan Gao (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School) led the way in the Gannon match with a team-high 11 kills. Xuan only had one error and hit a sizzling .588.
LHU head coach Tom Justice couldn’t say enough about the play of Fabiana Gomez (Montevideo, Uruguay/Consejo de E.S.), who turned in all-around stellar effort.
Gomez had 24 assists, seven aces, seven digs, two solo blocks and one block assist, as she helped lead The Haven’s dominating performance.
Kim Windstein (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) hit .625 with six kills and Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) added seven kills.
Christina Laury (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) turned in a sensational defensive effort for LHU on the backline and led The Haven with 15 digs.
Lock Haven was solid again against Mercyhurst and the Lady Eagles took down the Lakers.
Christie Naumann (Charters Towers, Australia/Gladstone) hit a very solid .521 with just one error, and 13 kills to lead Lock Haven’s offense in the win over MC.
Xuan was tough again on the attack and turned in a team-high 14-kill effort.
Gribler added nine kills and three aces.
Gomez was all over the court again for LHU and had 38 assists, 17 digs and two block assists.
Laury was again the leader on the defensive side with 20 digs.
Lock Haven is back in action tomorrow (Saturday, October 10) at 3:30 when the Lady Eagles play Edinboro.
