Volleyball downs Cheyney twice, goes 2-0 at Bob Chu Invitational
 

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (22-4) had a busy day as the Lady Eagles played four matches.

The Haven was victorious in all four matches and the four wins extend the Lady Eagles unbeaten streak to 14 matches.

Lock Haven kicked off the day with two wins over Cheyney in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East action. LHU beat Cheyney 3-0 (25-5, 25-7 & 25-4) and 3-0 (25-4, 25-1 & 25-4).

Following The Haven’s doubleheader with Cheyney the Lady Eagles kicked off the 2009 Bob Chu Invitational, a five-team tournament that runs until tomorrow (Saturday, October 11).

Lock Haven downed Alderson Broaddus in the opening match of the tournament 3-1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-13 & 25-13) before dropping Queen’s College (Canada) 3-1 (25-13, 24-26, 25-19 & 25-16).

It was Grace Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa./Aliquippa) leading the way in match one vs. Cheyney. The rookie knocked down a team-high nine kills and hit a sizzling .800.

In the second match against Cheyney, a huge key for Lock Haven was Christina Laury’s (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) 13 aces that paved the way for the victory.

Gina Lurry (Lorain, Ohio/Southview) led The Haven in kills with eight, as she hit a sensational .700.

Christie Naumann (Charters Towers, Australia/Gladstone) and Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) were on fire in the win over AB.

Naumann knocked down a match-high 18 kills and hit .500, while Gribler added 17 kills and hit .400.

Gribler was again the key for Lock Haven against Queen’s and she recorded 22 kills, while hitting .600.

The Lady Eagles return to action at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Bob Chu Invitational.
