LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Senior forward Collen Kafka (Candor, N.Y./Candor) scored two goals including the game-winner with just over three minutes to play in the first overtime lifting the Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (3-5-1) over local-rival Bloomsburg University (3-3) 2-1 in overtime.

Kafka’s first goal came off a penalty kick in the 53rd minute and put the Lady Eagles up 1-0 after a scoreless first half of action.

She was able to break in behind the defense drawing Bloomsburg’s goalie off her line, where she took Kafka down with one hand earning a yellow card and putting Kafka on the spot from 12 yards out.

The Haven’s leading scorer didn’t disappoint putting the ball in the lower left corner leaving Brittany Moses little chance of making a stop.

Just over five minutes later Kafka was at it again nearly helping LHU go up 2-0 after she played a ball into a streaking Arielle Gordon (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) who was able to break through the defense, but hit the right post as she went in one-on-one with Bloom’s keeper.

In the 62nd minute the Huskies finally found the back of net tying the game at 1-1 and that’s how it regulation would end.

With just 2:04 left in the first overtime Kafka took advantage of a Bloom defensive miscue and found herself heading toward goal with Moses off her line. Kafka’s 21-yard shot sailed up and over Moses and into the open-net giving LHU the victory at home.

Senior Emily Wagner (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) was credited with seven saves as she logged another 90 plus minutes between the pipes.

“I was very pleased with the effort today from the team,” LHU head coach Heather Davis said. “It was a great to get the win.”

The Lady Eagles are back in action on Monday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m when they travel to Millersville University.
