LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team is headed to Northwest, Pa. to take on Gannon University in Erie on Saturday.

The Bald Eagles (0-7, 0-5 PSAC West) are headed back out on the road as they travel to Erie, Pa. to do battle with Gannon University (3-5, 1-4 PSAC) on Saturday, October 24. Kickoff at Gannon University Field (2,500) is set for 1 p.m. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West game marks the Golden Knights 2009 Homecoming game.
Lock Haven is coming off a 45-0 home-shutout loss to IUP. IUP entered the game on a four-game losing skid and was in the midst of its third longest losing streak since 1982. This will be first time the Crimson Hawks finish with a losing record in PSAC West play since they went 2-4 in 1981.
Gannon is coming off a 51-48 shootout win over Slippery Rock at home. Prior to the win over SRU, Gannon had lost four straight games. The Golden Knights other two wins came against Lake Erie in the season-opener and at home against Cheyney in Week 3.
The Series:
Lock Haven and Gannon met for the very first time last season in 2008. Gannon won 26-0 at LHU’s Hubert Jack Stadium. The Golden Knights are in just their second year as full-time members of the PSAC. Gannon and Mercyhurst, two Erie, Pa. based schools joined last year as full-time members, while C.W. Post (Long Island, N.Y.) joined as an associate member for football and field hockey.

2009 marks the 30th Anniversary 1979 PSAC Championship:
The 2009 season marks the 30th anniversary of Lock Haven’s 1979 PSAC Championship team. Under the direction of head coach Jack Fisher, The Haven went 9-2 overall and a perfect 9-0 in conference play. The ’79-championship was the last time LHU won the conference and it marked the Bald Eagles eighth PSAC title.

A trio of Haven linebackers – Wes Plummer, Ben Snyder & Luke Ellison
The three athletic linebackers have combined to lead Lock Haven’s defensive effort and have racked up 111 total tackles. Plummer leads the way with 39, including 25 solo stops, one sack, one interception and 3.5 tackles for a loss. Snyder has 37 total stops and Ellison has made 35. Ellison leads the team in solo stops with 28.
A pair of Bald Eagle rookies – Two Lock Haven freshmen showed their true potential last weekend against IUP and sent a message that the future of Bald Eagle football is bright one. Defensively, Lock Haven got a game-high eight tackles from Tyree Pompey. Five of his eight stops were solo efforts and he made one interception. Guy Clark showed his athleticism for LHU. The freshman made two tackles and had one interception, while also adding four punts for 88 yards in the second half.
Gannon’s QB – Junior Zach Boedicer is coming off a huge outing in the win over SRU and proved he is a dual-threat anytime Gannon has the ball. The reigning PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week racked up 355 total yards last week and accounted for four GU TDs. He was 11-of-15 passing for 247 yards and three touchdowns. Boedicker also rushed for 108 yards on 12 carries and one score.

After starting the majority of the 2008 season, Jarryd Burkett got his first start under center last weekend. On the year, the sophomore QB is 23-for-40 for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Redshirt-freshman Jarret Kratzer has passed for 725 yards on the year.

In the loss to IUP, LHU only managed one total yard of offense as the Bald Eagles dropped their 18th straight contest dating back to their 0-11 season last year. The 18 losses in a row tie a school record for consecutive losses from 1925-27.
There were several bright spots in the IUP game including a strong defensive effort from rookie defensive back Tyree Pompey, who had a game-high eight tackles. Five of his eight stops were solo efforts and he made one interception.
Wes Plummer had seven stops. Luke Ellison made five tackles, including two for a loss. Five other Bald Eagles had five tackles for The Haven.
Guy Clark showed his athleticism for LHU. The freshman made two tackles and had one interception, while also adding four punts for 88 yards in the second half.
The loss two weekends ago to Cal (48-14) marked the 17th straight for Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles are one loss away from tying their school record for consecutive losses (18 – 1925-27)
Two weeks ago, LHU fell on the road at No. 19 Edinboro (ranked No. 12 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Poll).
The loss marked the second of the season to nationally-ranked opponent.
Lock Haven’s lone TD was caught by Devin Sims. Sims 21-yard touchdown reception capped off an eight-play, 62 yard drive.
Clarion was the site of LHU’s last win (2007 season finale) as the Bald Eagles have now lost 16 straight games.
Lock Haven last win at home came on October 28, 2006 against Clarion (W, 14-7).
After using four different quarterbacks in the season-opening loss to WCU, redshirt-freshman Jarret Kratzer saw the majority of time under center in the Ship game. Krazter was 15-for-29 for 111 yards passing.
Junior running back Ibrahim Smith rushed for 37 yards in the loss. Smith had one touchdown, Lock Haven’s first of the 2009 season. Smith’s long run of 11 yards was the TD.
Austin Knighton led Lock Haven’s defensive effort against Shippensburg with a seven-tackle game. Four of his seven stops were solo efforts. Dean Tortorice Shane Barie and Wes Plummer all made six tackles in the game. Tortorice also had one interception, while Plummer made 1.5 tackles for a loss and recorded one sack.
In the 2009 season opener, Lock Haven was shutout 43-0 by nationally-ranked West Chester as the Bald Eagles struggled to get the offense going. LHU used four different quarterbacks, but only managed to rack up 52 total yards.

QB Zach Boedicker is 77-for-138 on the year and has passed for 922 yards as he nears the 1,000-year plateau. He’s passed for six TDs on the year, including three last weekend. He’s averaging 115.2 yards/game.
Levar Goff is a primary target for Boedicker and has two touchdowns on the year.
Gannon’s running-game has been led by Jon Richardson, who has 630 yards and 13 touchdowns. He averages 78.8 yards a game on the ground.
Defensively, Gannon is led by Matthew Neal Mink, who has a team-high 74 stops (6 TFL, 1 sack, 1 FF). The Golden Knights have 18 guys with 11 or more stops on the year, including eight with 30 plus.

Bald Eagles fall to IUP
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – (10/17/09) The Lock Haven University football team (0-7, 0-5 PSAC West) was downed by visiting IUP (4-4, 1-4 PSAC West) 45-0 this afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium.
Despite unseasonably cold temperatures and a slight drizzle at times, IUP’s offense was firing on all cylinders and the Crimson Hawks jumped out to a commanding 35-0 halftime lead.
IUP led 14-0 after the opening frame and after a scoreless third quarter, Indiana tacked on 10 fourth-quarter points.
328 of IUP’s 390 total yards came on the ground, as the Crimson Hawks were led by Harvie Tuck, who racked up 218 rushing yards by himself.
Tuck scored two touchdowns, including the game’s first score with 4:14 to go in the opening quarter.
Defensively, Lock Haven got a game-high eight tackles from Tyree Pompey (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom). Five of his eight stops were solo efforts and he made one interception.
Wes Plummer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) hade seven stops.
Luke Ellison (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) made five tackles, including two for a loss.
Five other Bald Eagles had five tackles for The Haven.

Football falls in 2008 Homecoming clash
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – (10/25/08) The Lock Haven University football team (0-9, 0-6 PSAC West) fell to visiting Gannon University (4-5, 2-4 PSAC West) 26-0 today at Hubert Jack Stadium in a rain-soaked Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division clash.
Today’s game marked LHU’s 2008 Homecoming game.
The Bald Eagles were only down 6-0 at halftime, as The Haven defense did a solid job holding the Golden Knights to only two field goals.
Gannon however came alive in the second half and went up 13-0 after a Jon Richardson touchdown early in the third quarter. GU’s first drive of the second half was a good one as it marched 65 yards down the field.
Gannon tacked on two TD’s in the final quarter of play to take home the 26-0 victory in division action.
Defensively LHU got a tremendous effort from freshman Skyler Wool (Waterville, Pa./Jersey Shore), who had a game-high seven tackles. All seven of his tackles were solo stops, which included three for a loss. Wool also had one forced one fumble and had a sack.
Joe Sipple (White Haven, Pa./James Coughlin), Shane Barie (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional), Luke Ellison (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Andre Morrison (Johnstown, Pa./Johnstown) all had five tackles in the game for LHU.
Jarryd Burkett (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) and Jason Eby (Ulster, Pa./Athens) split time under center for LHU. Burkett got the start and was 5-for-13 passing while Eby went 3-for-9.
Cameron Turner (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) and DeMarr Dowell (Buffalo, N.Y./Erie C.C.) each had three catches.
Reggie Mencer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) led LHU in rushing with 39 yards on 12 carries.
Back in action:
Lock Haven will return home on Saturday, October 31 at 1 p.m. for the Bald Eagles final home game of the 2009 season. LHU hosts Slippery Rock at noon.
