Volleyball soars past West Chester and Bowie State
 

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (27-4, 14-2 PSAC) extended its win streak to 19 straight matches with wins over West Chester and Bowie State today at West Chester University.

The Lady Eagles kicked off the day with an important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win over host West Chester.

The Lady Eagles dropped the first set against WCU, but ultimately took down the Golden Reams 3-1 (23-25, 28-26, 25-23 & 25-21).

Following the win over West Chester, The Haven rolled past Bowie State 3-0 (25-7, 25-14 & 25-6).

Leading the Lady Eagles on the offensive side against WCU was Christie Naumann (Charters Towers, Austrailia/Gladstone), Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) and Xuan Gao (Dong Ying, China/Zibo No. 10 Middle School).

Gribler hit .382 with 16 kills and also added 10 digs.

Naumann recorded 13 kills and hit .400. She also had 18 digs.

Xuan added 15 kills and tallied 12 digs.

Fabiana Gomez (Montevideo, Uruguary/Consejo de E.S.) returned to action today and turned in all-around sensational effort. Gomez hit .750 with six kills and added a match-high 41 assists. She also had nine digs.

Christina Laury (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) led LHU with 34 digs.

Kim Windstein (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) added one solo block and four block assists, as she turned in another sensational effort for The Haven.

Freshman Erin Walsh (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) was the leader for Lock Haven in the win over Bowie State. She had a match-high 16 kills.

Walsh had zero hitting-errors and recorded a red-hot .761 hitting percentage.

Xuan helped lead LHU with 29 assists.

Laury added a team-best 14 digs.

Leigh Ann Edmondson (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville) led LHU with three solo blocks.

Lock Haven returns to action on Friday, October 30 at 6 p.m. when they host Millersville University. The Lady Eagles will host their 2009 Dig Pink event in conjunction with the Millersville match.
