Swimming goes 2-1 to kick off 2009-10 season

CANTON, Ohio – The Lock Haven University swim team (2-1) went 2-1 today as the Lady Eagles kicked off their 2009-10 season in Canton, Ohio at the C.T. Branin Natatorium, the host facility of the 2010 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships, which Lock Haven is hosting in March.

Lock Haven beat Malone 84-11, downed Urbana 86-5 and lost to Findlay 78-30.

LHU head coach Andy Waeger couldn’t have been happier with the start to the season and said the team raced incredibly well.

Freshmen Brittany Rehrig (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) and Jenna Brooks (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) led the way for the Lady Eagles today as the pair racked up several Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship individual qualifying marks.

Rehrig hit conference qualifying marks in three events, including the 50 freestyle (25:37), the 100 butterfly (1:01.18) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.70).

Rehrig’s time in the 100 breaststroke was third-fastest in school history and her 100 butterfly was the fourth fastest Lady Eagle mark of all-time.

Brooks hit a PSAC qualifying mark in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.86.

Lock Haven hits the pool again on Saturday, October 31 at 11 a.m. when they host Mansfield in dual-meet action.
