WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (16-3, 7-0 NEC) won its 13th straight match and improved to a perfect 7-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) action as the Lady Eagles soared past host Monmouth (7-10, 3-3 NEC) 5-1 this afternoon in conference action.
The win marks the 31st straight against a NEC opponent as The Haven has now run its all-time conference record to a remarkable 43-2.
Despite going down 1-0 in the 16th minute of play, the Lady Eagles held a 2-1 halftime advantage and tacked on three second half goals to take the 5-1 win.
Just 38 seconds after Monmouth took the 1-0 lead, Suzann Hobart (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) made it 1-1.
Kristi Shepps (Willow Street, Pa./Penn Manor) scored the first of her game-high two goals in the 23rd minute to give LHU the 2-1 lead. Shepps first of two tallies proved to the be the game-winner.
Mary Keister (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflingburg), Amy Hordendorf (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) and Shepps all scored second-half goals to lead Lock Haven to the win.
With the win LHU improves to a sensational 16-3 overall and is now 7-0 in NEC action with just one game remaining in the 2009 regular season.
Lock Haven returns to action to take on rival Rider on the road on Sunday, November 1 at noon.
